The Institute of
Greek Language and Culture under the Auspices of the Greek Orthodox
Church / Department of Education is offering Adult classes of Modern
Greek in three centers. This
program is designed to use innovative learning methods and to offer residents of
the Chicago Metropolitan area an
opportunity to learn conversational Modern Greek in a simple and easy way by:
1. Using the natural
approach for quick and comprehensive learning.
2. Putting emphasis on
conversation, grammatical and structural forms.
3. Providing cultural
information to understand native speakers' mentality.
4. Using target language in
a class and audiovisual material.
5. Having
"teacher hot line" for solving problems outside the classroom.
This is a two-year program that offers six courses of Modern
Greek, starting with two beggining courses 101 and 102, two intermediate courses
103 and 104, and two semi-advanced courses 105 and 106. Students who will study
in this program will gain basic fluency in the language. For those students who
wish to continue with their studies in Greek beyond the two-year program, third
and fourth year advanced courses are offered (200 and 300 level). These courses
will enable students to develop their language skills to a level of higher
fluency.
Each academic year has three sessions: Fall, winter
and spring. Classes meet once a week for the three nine-week sessions from 7 pm
to 9pm. This is also a preparatory program for the Certificate of Attainment
in Greek (level A B C & D)as well as the State of Illinois Bilingual
Certificate. Attendance is mandatory. Dues are not refundable after the
first week of class. For registration and information call:
